Our Neuropathology Team

Ty W. AbelTy W. Abel, M.D.
Dr. Ty W. Abel is an Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Neuropathology Division. He completed his residency and fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2005. His clinical interest and expertise are in the histopathologic diagnosis of brain and spinal cord tumors.

Hilary NickolsHilary Nickols
Hilary Nickols is a PGY4 Neuropathology Fellow in the combined anatomic/neuropathology residency/fellowship program (AP/NP). She graduated with her combined MD/PhD degree from Vanderbilt University in 2006. Her graduate studies focused on the localization and processing of the V2 vasopressin receptor in the laboratory of Dr. Lee Limbird in the Department of Pharmacology. Currently, she is investingating the immunohistochemical profile of peripheral nerve sheath tumors with Dr. Justin Cates in the Department of Pathology. Her future research interests include both the molecular mechanisms of glioma development as well as neurodegenerative diseases.

Bret MobleyBret Mobley
Dr. Bret Mobley is an Assistant Professor of Pathology , Microbiology, and Immunology in the Neuropathology Division. He completed his residency and fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine and joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2010. His clinical activities include diagnosis of central nervous system tumors as well as nerve and muscle biopsy interpretation. His current basic research focus is sympathetic nervous system development and tumorigenesis, with a focus on neuroblastoma.
