Our Goal:

At Vanderbilt, our goal is to find cures for brain cancer.  We are passionately working daily toward this goal.  In order to accomplish this goal, we are conducting research in the laboratory to understand why brain cancers develop.  We are taking the findings from the laboratory and translating the results into innovative therapies for patients with brain cancer.  The resources here, through the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, are unparalleled.

Mission Statement:

The focus of the Vanderbilt Brain Tumor Center is to provide comprehensive compassionate care to patients with brain tumors.  We have assembled a dedicated team of clinicians and scientists who are committed to finding a cure for brain cancer.  We are passionate in this pursuit.  Treatment of cancers of the brain requires the expertise of many different physicians.  We believe that our patients benefit when all of the physicians involved in a patient’s care communicate well with each other.  By working together as a team, we aim to provide the highest quality of care while searching relentlessly for a cure.  

There has been little progress in the treatment of brain cancer over the past five decades.  Indeed, many types of brain cancer progress rapidly despite aggressive treatment.  We believe that the solution to the problem of brain cancer lies in seeing the problem in a new light.  As such, we are asking questions in creative ways and are looking beyond traditional therapies.  We are committed to translating novel ideas into novel therapies.  The surgical techniques we use are pioneering.  For example, we are working closely with a team of biomedical engineers to develop new technologies to identify and locate tumors during surgery.  The medical therapies at Vanderbilt are leading edge.  Yet, while we seek the most advanced technological solutions to the problem of brain cancer, we recognize that a diagnosis of brain cancer is devastating.  Our physicians and nurses are committed to providing compassionate care and support for our patients and their families.
